Stefanie Giesinger: Model now sees life from a different perspective

"The last few months have shown me life from a different perspective," explains Stefanie Giesinger in an interview.

The corona pandemic has been determining our lives for months. Much has also changed for model and social media star Stefanie Giesinger (24). You follow all safety instructions and only travel when absolutely necessary, she clarifies in the interview. The "Germany's Next Top Model" winners from 2014 do not miss the red carpet. "The last few months have shown me life from a different perspective and made it clear to me once again how important it is to reflect on the essentials in life."

"Cancer doesn't take a break"

This year Giesinger is again supporting the charitable organization DKMS LIFE together with L'Oréal Paris. "Corona has pushed many important things into the background." With the campaign under the motto "Cancer does not take a break", she also wanted to draw attention to those "who need to be heard and supported despite a global pandemic. Cancer does not take a break, even if the entire world seems to be standing still."

Every year in Germany almost 230,000 women and girls develop cancer and often lose their hair, eyelashes and eyebrows in the process. With the program "look good, feel better", DKMS LIFE wants to give the patients new self-confidence. Patients receive tips and professional advice at free seminars on the subjects of cosmetics, facial care and headgear. L'Oréal Paris has supported the organization for over 15 years with monetary and product donations as well as voluntary beauticians.

"Make-up can work small or even big miracles"

That may sound superficial to outsiders, "but everyone knows how much better you can feel on a bad day if you put on a little make-up. Make-up can work small or even big miracles," says Giesinger. For the model, the commitment is a real matter of the heart. "Because I've had to spend a lot of time in the hospital, I know exactly how much it is worth when people take care of you and you are not alone."

The model suffers from so-called malrotation. In the sick, the internal organs are reversed, which among other things results in intestinal entanglements. However, there is no higher risk of corona infection with her. "My immune system is not weakened, so I have no worries about it," Giesinger explains.

The 24-year-old has already led several beauty workshops with cancer patients in recent years. "These workshops inspire me on a human level," explains Giesinger. "People who have a serious illness never want to be reduced to that. When you can laugh at difficult situations in life, you are fundamentally happier."

Dreamball takes place virtually

Since 2006, DKMS LIFE has organized the dreamball every September, an exclusive charity gala in Berlin. This year it will take place virtually on September 24th. A decision that Giesinger fully supports. "We are in a global pandemic and I think it's rather great that we can get creative and still get together without anyone being alone," enthuses the model.

And what is Giesinger looking forward to most when something like normalcy finally returns to our everyday lives? "To be able to hug my family without fear," summarizes the 24-year-old.
