Steven Spielberg’s production company Amblin Partners will make several films for Netflix each year.

Amblin Partners, the production company owned by Steven Spielberg, 74, and Netflix are partnering. The company will produce several films per year for the streaming service, as has now been officially announced.

“At Amblin storytelling will always come first,” explains Steven Spielberg in a statement, among other things. When he first had talks with Ted Sarandos (56), Chief Content Officer (CCO) at Netflix, “it was very clear that we had a great opportunity to tell new stories together and to reach the audience in new ways”. This is “incredibly fulfilling” for Spielberg. He could “hardly wait” to get started with the streaming service team.

Netflix is excited about collaboration

Sarandos is also enthusiastic about the collaboration with Spielberg. Among other things, he describes the director as a “creative visionary”. Sarandos grew up with Spielberg’s “memorable characters and stories” who were “long-lasting, inspiring and rousing”.

Even before the partnership became known, Netflix and Amblin Partners had joint projects in the pipeline: In March it was announced that Spielberg had secured the rights to the novel “The Talisman” by Stephen King (73) and Peter Straub (78) through his production company would have. A series is planned that will find its place on Netflix. In addition to the deal with Netflix, Amblin Partners also has a long-term contract with Universal, which was only renewed last December.
