(CercleFinance.com) – STMicroelectronics announces that it will build an integrated manufacturing unit for silicon carbide (SiC) substrates in Italy in order to meet the growing demand for SiC components from its customers for the automotive sectors and industrial.
This first plant of its kind for the manufacture of epitaxial SiC substrates in Europe should start production in 2023, making it possible to balance the group’s supply of SiC substrates between internal manufacture and purchases from suppliers.
The investment of 730 million euros over five years will benefit from the financial support of the Italian State as part of the national recovery and resilience plan and approximately 700 additional direct jobs will be created when the unit is at full capacity.
