Even legal hassles haven’t stopped James Bond, and the cult FPS GoldenEye 007 Coming to Xbox and Switch very soon.
Specifically, this Nintendo 64 monument will arrive on January 27 in the form of an HD remaster on both platforms, which will allow us to (re)discover the title in conditions more suited to our modern hardware.
An almost impossible mission, but successful
It’s the work of several years now that comes to an end, with this release of an up-to-date version of GoldenEye 007 on Game Pass, PC, Xbox One, Xbox SeriesX|S and Switch. As a reminder, an HD remaster of the game had been in the works since 2008 on Xbox 360, but had been canceled for licensing rights reasons.
This one had also leaked in 2021, with a video presenting the single-player campaign and local multiplayer. 26 years after its original release, this famous HD remaster of the iconic game will finally be released this Friday, courtesy of Rare who presents it to us in the following trailer.
In addition to the Xbox ecosystem, this revisit of GoldenEye 007 will also come to Switch through its Nintendo Switch Online subscription service (provided you acquire the Expansion Pack). Its presence on this platform could not be more logical, since many Nintendo 64 games have already joined the service.
Two platforms for two slightly different versions
That said, the game will not have the same features depending on whether you take the Xbox or Switch version. Microsoft’s gaming branch has indeed split from a ” faithful recreation ” of the title, which will however ignore online multiplayer, exclusive to the Switch version.
The single-player campaign, cheat codes and local multiplayer up to 4 will however be part of the game, regardless of the platform. While the Xbox version loses online multiplayer, it does gain native 16:9 aspect ratio support up to 4K, as well as dual analog sticks.
Little icing on the cake for holders of a digital copy of Rare Replay : access to the HD remaster of GoldenEye 007 will be at no additional cost. For the others, there is of course the subscription to the Game Pass, which will also welcome on January 27 a certain Dead Space Remake. To kill two birds with one stone, for England and USG Ishimura, of course.
