Stopped at the border: Man tried to smuggle Pokémon cards

He came from Switzerland and wanted to cross the border into Germany. But that’s where a Czech (31) ended his journey last week. Because: Customs officers discovered a total of 700 Pokémon trading cards in the man that he had not previously registered. A research by the officials revealed that the cards have a value of almost 2,000 francs. For this reason, criminal proceedings were initiated against the 31-year-old on suspicion of attempted tax evasion.

After paying the import duties of almost 405 euros and providing a security for the expected fine of 364 francs, the man was able to continue his journey with the trading cards. (jmh)
