“I hurt people and it’s not in my nature, I’m a sensitive person (…) What I wanted to say is that on the occasion of the holidays, especially when we fry and pastry, we sold a lot of oils so there were shortages in the shelves, it does not mean that there will be shortages, ”he said.
“By saying it, I spoke about the Muslim community and I would like to apologize for that because I did not want to stigmatize anyone. It is a population that is already sufficiently stigmatized,” he added.
Asked about the shortage of sunflower oil in his stores on May 4, Michel-Édouard Leclerc explained that many people bought frying oil for sheep on the occasion of the Eid holiday. His remarks then created controversy on social networks.
