Starting from storm “Mathis” centered on the English Channel, a cold front moved across Switzerland on Friday morning and caused showers and strong winds in many places. However, it only got really turbulent on the back of the front. In the cold mountain air, heavy showers and sometimes thunderstorms moved from west to east across Switzerland. In the vicinity of such thunderstorms, hurricane gusts were also recorded in the lowlands.

What’s next?

The storm will move to Germany via the Benelux countries by Saturday. As a result, changeable and windy April weather will continue during the night and on Saturday. The wind weakens slightly. In the lowlands, however, gusts of 60 to 90 km/h locally are also possible on Saturday, on the mountains there are gusts of wind around 100 km/h.
