Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio has been sentenced to 22 years in prison. The longest sentence to date in connection with the storming of the Capitol.
He is considered the leader of the right-wing organization “Proud Boys” and is said to be responsible for the storming of the Capitol in 2021.
The Washington court has sentenced 38-year-old Enrique Tarrio to 22 years in prison in connection with the 2021 storming of the Capitol. Tarrio is the former leader of the far-right Proud Boys militia.
The convict himself was not personally present when the Capitol was stormed, but is said to have led the attack in the background as a supporter of then President Donald Trump. Tarrio was the “ultimate leader”, “the person who organized, who was motivated by revolutionary zeal,” said the judge when the sentence was pronounced. The convict apologized in court, but the judge did not believe him. His lawyers announced an appeal.
22 years in prison is the highest sentence to date in connection with the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. It is unlikely that there will be any longer. Another suspect was sentenced to 18 years in prison last week
