“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” brings back the villain from the worst of all “Star Trek” films. Will the villain be given a second chance, or should we be concerned?
Warning, spoilers for “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Episode 7 follow! If you haven’t seen the series yet, you should read on with caution from now on!
- “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Episode 7 announces the return of Sybok, Spock’s half-brother.
- Sybok was the villain in probably the worst “Star Trek” movie “At the Edge of the Universe”.
- A new star for the role has not yet been confirmed. We’ll surely find out more in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Season 2!
In the seventh episode of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” the Enterprise is hijacked by pirates. Captain Angel (Jesse James Keitel) takes over and uses Spock (Ethan Peck) as leverage to get Spock’s fiancĂ©, T’Pring (Gia Sandhu), to free a Vulcan prison inmate. In the end, this turns out to be Sybok.
Of course, fans of the “Star Trek” universe know Sybok, it is Spock’s half-brother, who played the villain in “Star Trek V: On the Edge of the Universe”. On the one hand, as a fan, you get goosebumps from such a revelation, but Sybok and “Star Trek 5” make the hairs on the back of most fans’ necks stand up.
The film, directed by Kirk actor William Shatner, is widely considered the worst of all the “Star Trek” films. “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”, on the other hand, has worked its way up to one of the best-rated series in a very short time. What were the creators of the series thinking when they brought Sybok back?!
Laurence Luckinbill played the role in Star Trek V. Since Sybok was only seen from behind at the end of the seventh episode of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”, it is not clear who will play the role in the series. An announcement is sure to await us in the next few days.
It was recently confirmed that more well-known characters will await us in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”. Who would have thought that the time had come for the next character to be confirmed. Captain Kirk will also return in Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, played by Paul Wesley.
As in “Star Trek V”, Sybok will certainly take on the role of a villain. The Vulcan is very intelligent, cunning and likes to explore his emotions as well. In this way he differs from the other Vulcans, has become radicalized and has been rejected.
At the end of “Star Trek 5”, however, Sybok sacrifices himself for Spock, Kirk and the Enterprise and thus returns to the good side, so to speak. But there won’t be too much of that in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”, after all, the series is about the prehistory. It is still unclear whether Sybok will make a proper appearance this season.
While Star Trek 5 is generally considered bad and Sybok suffers from the film’s reputation, we shouldn’t condemn Sybok’s return. The series has brought back many well-known characters and given them a second chance, with Pike (Anson Mount) and Chapel (Jess Bush) leading the way.
We’ll tell you how you can see Season 1 of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” in full right now. The new episodes appear weekly in this country on Paramount +. The streaming service has other “Star Trek” releases in its luggage in the coming months.
