Stranger Things 5: the creators’ promise for the end of the Netflix series

Each season of Stranger Things has brought its share of new characters and Season 4 is no exception. Will it be the same for the fifth and final season of the Netflix series?

Warning, spoilers. It is advisable to be up to date on the Stranger Things series before continuing to read this article.

Since season 2 of Stranger Things, fans of the Netflix series have been used to discovering new characters with each burst of episodes. The public got to know and love colorful personalities like Bob (Sean Astin), Max (Sadie Sink), Billy (Dacre Montgomery) or even Eddie (Joseph Quinn) in season 4.

The problem is that most of the new characters introduced in the seasons of Stranger Things have the misfortune to disappear and die in excruciating pain. An unfortunate trend that fans are beginning to criticize, and even more since the death of Eddie, who had quickly become a darling and that the public wants to see again.

New characters in season 5?

So will it be the same for season 5 of the Netflix series? The creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, understood this problem well and answered the question during the show “Aftershow” of the platform, which returned to volume 2 of season 4 of Stranger Things.

When asked how they manage to handle all the main character storylines, in addition to the new character arcs, Matt Duffer said: “We’re done with that. We won’t be adding any characters in Season 5. That’s a promise.”

There will therefore be no new characters in the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. This answer from Matt Duffer seems logical since these final episodes will take place entirely in Hawkins, now that everyone is gathered for a big battle against Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).

Season 5 of Stranger Things should therefore be used to close the loop if we are to believe his words to Collider : “Season 4 was interesting for us because everyone was spread out. This is what makes this season unique. Now that they’re back together, we’re going to explore some of the dynamics from Season 1 again, but on a grander scale.”

The Duffer brothers will start writing the final season of the Netflix series in August, which we should not be able to discover before 2024 on the platform.
