While its official trailer is unveiled this Tuesday, April 12, season 4 of Stranger Things continues to make fans salivate, and their agitation is not about to subside, the creators not hesitating now to compare their series to… Game of Thrones.
While waiting for the first episodes to be posted on Netflix on May 27, the Duffer brothers have revised their ambitions upwards during the making of this highly anticipated season 4.
“We like to humorously dub it ‘Game of Thrones season’ because it explodes on all sides and that’s what makes it unique. Joyce and the Byers family left town at the end of season 3. They are now in California, where we will have the opportunity to recreate an aesthetic atmosphere à la ET, the extraterrestrial. Hopper is in Russia, while a small group remains in Hawkins. These three stories will eventually collide and bring a different tone from previous seasons,” explained Matt Duffer in an interview with Deadline.
“We only realized halfway through the writing phase that this season was going to be huge. We obviously refer to Game of Thrones through these multiple points of view, but also in terms of twists and revelations. This season, fans will finally have their questions about the Upside Down mythology answered,” added his brother Ross.
One hour episodes
What still make a little more stampede with impatience before discovering this sequel. The two creators further announce that all episodes of Season 4 will be a minimum of one hour long. “I don’t think we have an episode of less than an hour,” he said, still for Deadline. “We kind of forget time,” added Matt Duffer. This season, [les épisodes] are very long. I think that’s almost double the length of any season. (…) This is one of the reasons why it took so long. The season has that kind of epic quality. And it’s a different feeling, that’s for sure,” he added.
Note that after the arrival of the first episodes on May 27, you will have to wait again to discover the second part of season 4, which is expected on July 1, still on Netflix. The adventure will then continue with a final season 5, and probably later with spin-offs.
