Here is another strange revelation about Stranger Things. An interview with the young actors of the series on the show Build Series has resurfaced and made us realize that the truth about Season 4’s big bad Vecna has been slumbering on the internet for years! During the exchange, the actors got into the game of fan theories while promoting the first season.
Believe it or not, but Gaten Matarazzo, who plays the endearing Dustin, was just a fan of a theory that turned out to be right in 2022. He explains it in the interview that it convinced him: “There was this video where a fan was saying that the kids in Hawkins’ lab, other than Eleven, most of them are dead. But, others have been banished to the Upside Down. Like, they couldn’t get out.“
After referring to the effects the Upside Down had on Will, he returned to the theory that the Upside Down could have a deleterious influence on the people in it and ultimately change them. Thus, one of the test subjects of season 1 would have been transformed into a monster: the famous Demogorgon.
If you watched Season 4, you can see that this 2016 theory isn’t far off from what was revealed at the end of the first volume. We learned that Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), the monster controlling the minds of Hawkins teenagers to better kill them, was actually One, being the first test subject of Dr. Martin Brenner, and previously Henry Creel, the son of Victor Creel.
And, after slaughtering the other kids in Hawkins’ lab, he confronted the sole survivor, Eleven, who used her powers to send him to the Upside Down, where he transformed into Vecna. Clearly, Gaten was right from the start!
