Strava greatly facilitates communication between athletes with this great new feature

Specializing in sporting activities, the Strava application now includes internal messaging designed to facilitate and develop communication between its millions of users.

With more than 100 million users, Strava has become the reference application for tracking, analyzing and posting your sporting activities and those of those around you. Except that until then, the interactions between each member were limited to sending each other Kudos – a Facebook-style “like” – and commenting on each other’s performances.

Strava is now going much further, since it is deploying internal messaging that will allow “ athletes to coordinate their adventures, connect for inspiration or advice, share their journey, and much more“, we learn in an official press release.

Individual or group discussion

As with all other messaging systems, the Strava community will be able to create individual or group conversations. Personalizing the name of a discussion will also be possible, in order, for example, to organize for an official race that a defined group of people intends to do. And this, without exchanging telephone numbers.

Another practical function: sharing an activity or a route within a conversation, again either to highlight a sporting performance that you wish to show to a limited panel of people, or to prepare a common route that It is appropriate to share beforehand.

For security, privacy, and peace of mind, Strava gives you the ability to choose who can send you a private message: everyone you follow; only people with whom you mutually follow each other; person, only you can send a message first.

Already available… or almost

Good news: the function is already deployed by Strava. We even got to try it. To start a conversation, simply:

  • Click on the user profile;
  • Click the Message button next to Subscribers.

On the other hand, the “group conversation” function seems unavailable… or difficult to find within the application. We were unable to find it to test it. It is possible that this new feature will arrive at a later date.

New features coming in 2024

Please note that Strava’s internal messaging is not a paid option: it is free for all users, only on mobile at the time of writing. In 2024, several new features will arrive, such as sending photos, we learnBike Radar. The arrival of messaging is a response to the growing demands of the community, which pointed out a small gap here.
