From a road trip adventure to a cult romance to a blockbuster precursor, these films are unmistakably associated with summer.

Unforgettable holiday flirts, adventures with friends or a road trip that you will remember for the rest of your life – the summer has many highlights. These films take up these and other topics and can currently be seen in streams on various platforms.

“Stand by Me – The Secret of a Summer”

The 1986 coming-of-age adventure “Stand by Me – The Secret of a Summer” by Rob Reiner (75) is not considered a classic for nothing. It tells the story of four friends who go in search of the body of a missing boy. However, no horror shocker awaits the viewers, even if the film is based on the novella “The Body” by Stephen King (74). Stars like Kiefer Sutherland (55), John Cusack (56) and River Phoenix (1970-1993), who died much too early, can be seen in it. The film is currently being shown on Wow.

“Chick”

Fatih Akin (48) has often demonstrated his love of storytelling with his works. When hearing the name of the director and the keyword “Summer”, most people are likely to think of the entertaining road movie “Im Juli” with Moritz Bleibtreu (50) and Christiane Paul (48) from the year 2000. But also the film adaptation of the bestseller “Chick” by Wolfgang Herrndorf (1965-2013) was directed by Akin. With a “borrowed” Lada, the young Maik and his new classmate Andrej “Tschick” Chichatschow embark on a journey through the summer – and thus on an adventure that almost every 14-year-old would wish for. Both titles are currently available on Disney+.

“Dirty Dance”

Anyone who hears the song “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life” inevitably thinks of “Dirty Dance”. Not only the hit from the soundtrack has ensured that viewers have the time of their lives since 1987 – at least if they like romance. “Baby” falls in love with her dance teacher Johnny during the holidays and “even if everyone is against them, they are powerless against this love,” says the trailer for the cult film. Jennifer Gray (62) became world famous in her role as Frances “Baby” Houseman, Patrick Swayze (1952-2009) cemented his status as a heartthrob as Johnny Castle. “Dirty Dancing” is currently streamed via the bookable channel “Cinema of Hearts” on Amazon Prime Video.

“Call Me By Your Name”

“Call Me By Your Name” tells the story of 17-year-old Elio, who in the summer of 1983 in northern Italy meets Oliver, who spends several weeks as Elio’s father’s research assistant. The two discover their feelings for each other, which develop into a sensual romance. The film by Luca Guadagnino (50) helped Timothée Chalamet (26), who can be seen alongside Armie Hammer (35), made his breakthrough in Hollywood in 2017. He was also nominated for an Oscar for best actor for his role as Elio. currently is “Call Me By Your Name” available on Netflix.

“The White shark”

If only because of its importance for the entire film world “The White shark” not absent from this selection. Steven Spielberg’s (75) 1975 classic, in which a monstrous shark terrorizes bathers, defined the much-used meaning of the term “blockbuster” in the context of movies today. Crowds literally lined up for blocks to get a movie ticket for the lavish production. The “Guinness Book of Records” also lists “Jaws”, so the original title, as the first “summer blockbuster film”. “Jaws” can currently be seen on Wow.
