The tax on streaming does not pass
The major festivals Francofolies de La Rochelle and Printemps de Bourges will no longer display Spotify as a sponsor from next year. A decision taken to protest against the new French tax on music streaming, which will represent approximately 1.75% of the turnover of companies in the sector made in France.
“ Following the announcement of the implementation of a tax on music streaming in France, we regret to announce that Spotify France will stop supporting the Francofolies de la Rochelle and the Printemps de Bourges, from 2024 » explained Spotify CEO Antoine Monin on X.
The divorce between Spotify and France?
Spotify will thus end its two programs Le Chantier (for the Francofolies) and iNOUïs (for the Printemps de Bourges), which are dedicated to the emergence of new talents.
On X, the reactions were overwhelmingly negative, with many Internet users accusing the company of blackmail. Some have even indicated that they could simply cancel their subscription and turn to the competition represented by the French Deezer.
And this announcement would also only be the first in a longer series if we are to believe the same leader. Because Antoine Simon also added, following his first post, that “ other announcements will follow in 2024. » Could this be the start of a soap opera?
