The Sony WH-1000XM3 have already received two successor models, the WH-1000XM4 and WH-1000XM5 – but the XM3 are still among the best over-ear headphones in the test environment: The Sony headphones offer an excellent, clean and differentiated sound. Only the bass might feel a bit too present for some. However, you can counteract this with the associated app. Also the noise canceling is great, but can’t quite keep up with the successors. The WH-1000XM5 in particular have raised the bar a whole lot higher.

“The Sony WH-1000XM3 noise-cancelling headphones performed excellently in the test: The active noise reduction (ANC), the sound quality and the wearing comfort are excellent, the battery life is at least very good. The only notable shortcoming is the very quiet voice transmission in telephone calls.
