Sublime first trailer for Miyazaki’s new movie

We finally have a sublime first trailer for Hayao Miyazaki’s new film. This is added to the wonderful catalog of studio Ghibli, and it makes you want.

After Le Vent se Rève, released in 2013, we no longer believed in the return of Hayao Miyazaki. This announced his retirement, marking the end of an era for animated films and the Ghibli studio. However, like a little secretive, he was preparing a new feature film called The Boy and the Heron. Japan has already had the opportunity to see it, since it was released there on July 14, 2023. Nevertheless, in France, we did not even have a trailer to declare, until today today.

Ghibli and Miyazaki continue to make people dream

Miyazaki is a kind of dream machine. Thanks to him, we’ve had Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke and now, The Boy and the Heron. The problem is that it went relatively unnoticed, the fault of non-existent media coverage, the will of the studio. Finally, the communication around the new Ghibli film begins to catch up by offering us a first trailer. As a reminder, until now, we had to settle for a few handpicked images. We let you savor it below.

If you haven’t quite understood what this new film from Studio Ghibli is about, that’s normal. Fortunately, we have a good amount of information about him. It is loosely based on a novel by Genzaburō Yoshino called And you, how will you live?. The plot begins at the beginning of the Second World War, when Tokyo is under the fire of bombs.

After the disappearance of his mother in a fire, Mahito, an 11-year-old boy, must leave Tokyo to go and live in the countryside in the village where she grew up. He settles with his father in an old mansion located on a huge estate where he meets a gray heron who gradually becomes his guide and helps him through his discoveries and questions to understand the world around him and to break through the mysteries of life.

What about the release date?

In view of this short synopsis, we can expect a moving adventure full of twists and turns. The kind that brings tears to the eye, something Hayao Miyazaki excels at. We now have to see if the Japanese master will still make us believe that he is retiring. If that ends up being the case, then Studio Ghibli will lose one of its greatest craftsmen.

A little reminder shot is needed for latecomers who do not know the release date. In France, the distribution of the film is handled by Wild Bunch. The firm had already taken care of feature films like Pompoko or The First Slam Dunk. And not long ago, she had revealed that The Boy and the Heron would be released in our dark rooms on 1er November 2023. We can consider ourselves lucky, because our American colleagues will have to wait until December 8 before seeing the next Ghibli.
