Successes at the Junior World Championships – Blanc wins gold twice – bronze for Hiltbrand – Sport

  • At the Junior World Alpine Ski Championships, Swiss-Ski won medals 3 to 6 on the second day of competition.
  • Malorie Blanc wins the women’s Super-G title. In the evening she also won gold in the team combination with slalom rider Anuk Brändli.
  • In the juniors, double downhill world champion Livio Hiltbrand followed suit and took Super-G bronze.

Malorie Blanc took revenge on the second day of competition for the narrow “defeat” from the previous day. The 20-year-old, who missed out on the downhill title by a measly hundredth of a second on Tuesday, hit back in the Super-G on Wednesday. With start number 10, Blanc showed a clean ride that no athlete should be able to outdo. A duo from Austria came closest to the Lower Valais woman. Viktoria Bürgler (+0.47 seconds) and Nicole Eibl (+1.14) completed the podium.

The second best Swiss woman was Isabella Pedrazzi in 7th place. For Stefanie Grob – last year’s silver medalist – it was another disappointment. The Appenzell native had to be content with 10th place.

Next medal for Hiltbrand

In the junior race, a familiar face greeted us from the podium in the Super-G. Downhill world champion Livio Hiltbrand started to catch up in the final part of the race after a failed start. At the finish, thanks to the best time in the last sector, he secured the bronze medal behind the Italian Max Perathoner and Ander Mintegui from Spain. The Bernese were 0.22 seconds short of defending their title, while Mintegui was only 1 hundredth of a second away.

Behind Hiltbrand, the Swiss juniors achieved a convincing team result. Thomas Zippert (5th/+0.37) and Florian Vogt (10th/+0.54) achieved top 10 rankings.

More medals in the evening

In the Alpine team combination in the evening, the Swiss, especially Blanc, were able to improve. She won gold with slalom rider Anuk Brändli. Janine Hächler and Stefanie Grob also made it to the podium, finishing third and winning bronze. Hächler had the best running time. The Austrians Bürgler and Natalie Falch took silver.
