After criticism: BVB fans celebrate Felix Nmecha

After his commitment from Wolfsburg there was a lot of criticism. But right from the first appearance in front of a home crowd, the Dortmund newcomer Felix Nmecha advertises himself. Meanwhile, BVB coach Edin Terzić is making an emotional announcement.
Felix Nmecha gave Borussia Dortmund a successful dress rehearsal just under a week before the first competitive game of the new season. The new signing contributed two goals in the 3-1 (1-1) win over Ajax Amsterdam (54th/60th minute). The former Wolfsburg player was stormily celebrated for this. It was “not normal” how great the fans were, Nmecha enthused on Sky and reported on a positive start in Dortmund. “It was really good, everyone accepted me well.”
BVB supporters had criticized two posts shared by Nmecha before the change and quickly deleted on social media as homophobic and anti-queer. Nmecha himself had made it clear that he would not “discriminate” against “anyone”. “I think some things have been taken out of context,” the 22-year-old said on the subject. “I hope the fans will give me the chance to get to know myself.”
In front of 80,500 spectators, Julian Brandt (6th) scored another goal for the German runners-up, who will meet regional league club TSV Schott Mainz in the first round of the cup next Saturday. The goal for the top Dutch club was scored by Brian Brobbey (7th).
Although Borussia could not play in the best line-up, good approaches were recognizable. In addition to the recently injured professionals such as Gregor Kobel and Nico Schlotterbeck, national striker Karim Adeyemi also had to pass at short notice. The three newcomers Marcel Sabitzer, Ramy Bensebaini and Nmecha were used for this. Nmecha drew the most attention, making two appearances just minutes after coming on as a substitute early in the second half.
The game took place as part of Borussia’s official season opener, where the new team was presented. Sabitzer, who has been signed from Munich, is going into the season with great confidence: “I see the potential and the quality. Our aim must be to win titles.” Coach Edin Terzić sounded similarly combative: “We want to experience a season that we will never forget.”
