In a personal conversation on Wednesday, Perthes suggested to Al-Burhan that all political prisoners be released immediately. He also demanded access to the detainees, as the UN mission in Khartoum announced on Thursday.
The military took power on Monday in the East African country with around 44 million inhabitants. General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who previously headed a transitional government together with Hamduk, announced the disempowerment of the civilian government members and declared a state of emergency.
