Suffers from cancer, she cannot consider pregnancy, her former high school friend agrees to carry her baby

With cancer and under strong treatment, Katy cannot get pregnant. While her eggs are intact, she and her husband decide to look for a surrogate mother. It is a long lost high school friend, Christina, who will respond to her request and carry her child.

A lovely story of generosity and deep friendship. While Christina Acevedo, a young nurse and mother of two daughters strolls on Facebook, she comes across a publication from one of her former friends from high school, since lost to follow-up. In the post, Katy explains that she and her husband Josh wish to have a child. Only, having been touched by a very aggressive cancer, she cannot get pregnant because of her treatment, even though she is now in remission. The couple then decides to look for a surrogate mother, by sharing their approach on Facebook.

Christina was very touched by Katy’s story. After talking a lot with her husband, she decided to carry her friend’s baby.

A magnificent gesture

After Christina responded to Katy’s search, the two former friends got in touch and then began the surrogacy process. “We realized we were so happy to have had the chance to welcome our two daughters that we wanted another couple to experience that same happiness.”, Says Christina according to Close. After passing the steps required by the state of Michigan – in this state is only allowed altruistic surrogacy, that is to say without it being possible to establish economic compensation. The surrogate mother must be close to the intended parents in order to avoid the gestational black market – a fertilized embryo was transferred on January 15, 2020.

The transfer was very moving. I was holding Christina’s hand and we were both crying. I was able to follow the implantation on a screen and I then understood that I could become a mother”, Explains Katy. Due to the health crisis, visits between the two couples have been restricted. They therefore shared photos and videos of the pregnancy throughout it. It was on October 1, 2020 that a little girl was born, bearing Christina as a middle name, like her surrogate mother.

Christina has never been worried about carrying someone else’s child. “During my pregnancy, I thought a lot about the questions I was going to be asked, explains Christina. I knew that many people were going to ask me how I had been able to carry a baby and then give it to another couple. But I never felt like it was my baby and I always knew it was Katy and Josh’s child”, She explains. She is very happy that she did. Today, the two families are very close and maintain contact.
