Doubly well-guarded balls
Only a judicial officer and an operator of the FDJ are authorized to enter the vault room where the 49 numbers are located. The first has a key, the second a badge and a biometric fingerprint, all three necessary to open the door. The transfer of the boules to the studio, located in the premises of the FDJ, takes place thirty minutes before recording.
A unique serial number
Each ball has its own laser engraved serial number! During the draw, the bailiff checks some of them at random, before they are placed in the sphere. Thus, no risk of cheating.
Two end tours
After the draw, Christophe Beaugrand, Iris Mittenaere and Karine Ferri record two modules. The first is produced immediately and is broadcast if no one has won. The second is boxed after the location of a winner by the FDJ technological center based in Vitrolles.
Two annual technical inspections
Made of rubber, the balls are very resistant. However, they go through the “technical control” box twice a year. A “change in the color of the game” could also justify their replacement, explains Mathieu Alfonso, in charge of coordinating the prints and promulgations of the FDJ group. Also, no one has the right to touch it. Not even the animators! “I have never been able to take them in six years “, says Christophe Beaugrand. Only the FDJ collaborator operator delegated to the draw can enter them in order to introduce them into the sphere.
A bailiff ordered not to move
The heavy task of monitoring the numbers falls to the bailiff. Once the balls are placed in the sphere, he cannot move… until the draw. He thus remains for half an hour in the same place, his eyes still riveted on them.
A secret rescue studio
Whether it’s raining, blowing or snowing, the Loto shooting cannot be canceled. To deal with the worst eventualities, the FDJ has everything in duplicate: computers, boules… and even a second studio hidden in Paris.
Elevator to avoid!
It would be unfortunate for the host to get stuck shortly before the recording. The organizers and TF1 therefore recommend “to take the stairs”, confides with humor Christophe Beaugrand.
