Illumination and Nintendo have finally presented the animated Super Mario Bros. slated to hit theaters in April 2023. During this Nintendo Direct which was entirely dedicated to it, the two companies took the time to detail this “vision” of the Mushroom Kingdom, with some characters revealed and a first look at the story.

Story and characters
Thanks to the first trailer of the film, we can quite easily understand its synopsis : the terrifying Bowser, King of the Koopa, travels through the kingdoms of the universe in search of the stars that each one contains. The first part of the video clearly shows him invading the Penguin Kingdom (taken from Super Mario 64) to obtain the precious star. He will eventually set his eyes on the Mushroom Kingdom and the precious star that must contain Princess Peach’s Castle. It’ll obviously be up to Mario and his pals to save Toadland, but based on the final seconds of the trailer, it looks like this is the plumber’s first visit to the Mushroom Kingdom..
