Super Marios Bros, the animated feature film concocted by Illumination and Nintendo, has sparked a totally unusual controversy around the “shrunken” buttocks of the mustachioed plumber. Explanations!
But where did Super Mario’s plump buttocks go? This is the unusual question that made the buzz on social networks after the revelation of the first poster of the animated feature film on October 4th. The result of collaboration between Illumination (Despicable Me) and Nintendo, Super Mario Bros will be released in theaters on March 29, 2023.
On this poster, we see the famous mustachioed plumber imagined by Shigeru Miyamoto. He stands with his back to the Mushroom Kingdom, surrounded by Toads.
ME, UGLY AND MY BUTT
If the design pleased the fans, many people pointed out an unexpected detail.
Indeed, Nintendo hero aficionados reacted to the drastic reduction in the shape of Super Mario’s buttocks. These are much less rounded than in video games. Therefore, fans do not recognize the round and plump figure of their favorite plumber enough.
“Remember what they took from us”jokes this user on Twitter, posting a comparative photo between the film and the game Super Mario Odyssey.
“They reduced the guy’s c..!”protests Kenneth Shepard, this time making a comparison with Mario in the fighting game Super Smash Bros.
Another Twitter user, RJ Palmer, even retouched the poster to fix the problem. “I care deeply about anatomical authenticity in design. This Mario can’t even jump 1 meter. Public outrage has fixed Sonic, it’s not too late to fix Mario”he comments, referring to the first design of Sonic the Movie.
The latter had not been to the taste of the fans who had pressed for the studio to review its copy. Faced with discontent, director Jeff Fowler and the film crew decided to postpone the release by 3 months to satisfy fans.
“This is unacceptable, they took his c…! He can’t c…!”quips Mari.
