The year 1996 marked a turning point in Nintendo’s history with the launch of the Nintendo 64 on the market. In fact, SNES owners were afraid of feeling abandoned. However, this was not the case, since small bombs like Donkey Kong Country 3, Harvest Moon and Super Mario RPG had been able to satiate the hunger for video game adventures of the wisest and venerable of us. From a collaboration between Square and Nintendo, SMRPG was Mario’s first entry into the world of RPGs. There was, however, a small “hiccup” for Harvest Moon And super mario rpg : you had to have a slightly modified console to be able to play it under our latitudes. If this affront had been repaired in 1998 for Harvest Moonwith a European release, it took until 2008 to SMRPGwith its appearance on the Wii’s Virtual Console.

It is therefore with a fully 3D remake, but respecting the isometric view of the 1996 original that Super Mario RPG Remake intends to seduce the crowds. The artistic direction is intended to be rather respectful of the starting material, with round characters, but smoothed on all sides, just to fit into current HD canons. As shown in the trailer below, Mario will be able to team up with Peach and Bowser, but also Mellow and Geno, two characters unique to SMRPG. The music of the time, composed by Yoko Shimomura, Koji Kondo and Nobuo Uematsu (we call that a trifecta) have of course been remastered for the occasion. super mario rpg will land on Nintendo Switch on November 17, 2023 for 60 euros.
