The quest for the future Supergirl is coming to an end soon. The choice of actress who will play the superheroine in the DCU created by James Gunn is now between two actresses: Milly Alcock and Meg Donnelly. Who will wear the famous blue, red and yellow costume?
A Targaryen versus the voice of Supergirl
According to our colleagues at The Hollywood Reporter, the casting of the role is indeed in its home stretch. The character, who is to make his first appearance in the film Superman: Legacy (scheduled for July 11, 2025 in theaters), will also be at the center of his own film entitled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Milly Alcock is undoubtedly the more identified of the two. The 23-year-old Australian actress is known for playing young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the series House of the Dragon.
On the other hand, the singer and actress Meg Donnelly played notably in the series The Winchester, High School Musical: The Musical And Zombies. But if his CV is less impressive on paper, he still has a major asset.
The young woman is in fact the official voice of Kara Zor-El and her alter ego Supergirl in animated series Legion of Super-Heroes (2023) and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths (2024). She therefore has a very special affinity with the character.
The two actresses recently passed tests in Atlanta, in the presence of James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, the duo at the helm of future DC film adaptations. No decision has yet been made official, but it seems imminent since the filming of Superman: Legacy is scheduled to begin in March.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is based on the comic series written by Tom King and Bilquis Evely in 2021. This adaptation will see a destroyed heroine, left to live on a piece of Krypton adrift in space. Far from the more enviable destiny of Kal-El, the film will explore the life of the woman who was forced to watch her entire family die tragically.
