Superman Legacy film changes title, first image of costume revealed

Let’s go ! The filming of the next Superman film directed by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) officially began on February 29. The opportunity for the director to announce the change of title… and to offer us a first image of the famous blue, yellow and red costume.

Superman loses his Legacy

February 29 was a special day for many reasons. In addition to only happening every four years, it’s also the birthday of the son of Krypton! A date that could not be more suitable to launch the filming of Superman’s next cinematic adventure…

Its director James Gunn celebrated the event in an Instagram post on his personal account.

A simple image of the superhero costume which confirms the new logo, inspired by the acclaimed comic book Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross, published in 1996. Note also that the costume is sprinkled with snow, which suggests that Superman will once again make a short visit to the Fortress of Solitude.

If the precise story of Gunn’s film is not yet known, it could therefore be inspired by that of Kingdom Comewhich takes place in the future, and where Superman and the Justice League are disconnected from the Earth population, who then turn to amoral superheroes.

But this is not the only information in this Instagram post, since Gunn took the opportunity to announce a change in the title of the film, which simply becomes Superman.

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked down the final version, it was clear that the title was SUPERMAN. Arrival planned for July 2025″explains James Gunn.

Written and directed by Gunn, this new Superman film includes David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Isabel Merced and Nathan Fillion in its cast. It is scheduled to be released in cinemas on July 9, 2025.
