James Gunn has made it known that he wants to completely redefine the DC cinematic universe. In recent days, Superman Legacy has reached a new stage, without Henry Cavill.
The brand new DC universe is just around the corner. Remember: Last year, James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) had been named co-president of the studios along with producer Peter Safran. Very quickly, he made it known that he wanted to completely redefine the DC cinematic universe, putting aside the previous films featuring Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman or Superman. Among all this reshuffling, one was particularly talked about, the replacement of Henry Cavill in the role of Superman, but it is definitely too late to see him return.
Superman Legacy passes the second!

Discovery’s David Zaslav explained during a conference call that filming on Superman Legacy will “start soon”, ” from next week “. A new step that only means one thing: everything is fine! There will obviously be no delays and the film should therefore be able to keep its track record. Excellent news a few months after the big strikes that hit Hollywood for a while without forgetting that, as David Zaslav recalls, “the studio was “underperforming” for some time. So it smells very good on all levels. Already for us spectators, since we should be able to discover the feature film on time, but it is also a very good thing for the studio which will be able to restart after a hard blow.
As a reminder, this is Superman Legacy which marks the beginning of James Gunn’s projects. It’s also the start of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters in this new DC universe. We will find Clark Kent torn between his extraterrestrial origins and his attachment to Earth. Our hero will question his approach to justice and the consequences of his actions. In the All-Star Superman comics which served as inspiration, our hero, poisoned by Lex Luthor, has only a few weeks to live. As was confirmed a few months ago, actor David Corenswet (Pearl) will take over the role of the Man of Steel in place of Cavill.

James Gunn also posted a photo on Instagram a few days ago to mark the event, with the full cast. “After the table read with the cast of #Superman. For now, only one image of Superman Legacy has been revealed, the hero’s logo, and the film is still expected to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
