The German Institute for Service Quality tested twelve supermarket apps. Four come off very well, only two failed.

Create shopping lists, look for branches nearby, view offers from your local store or order from home: apps from supermarkets can make everyday shopping much easier. Every big chain now has its own app in its portfolio. The German Institute for Service Quality tested twelve of them.

The institute tested the apps in two areas: ease of use and usability. Both areas taken together formed the total value. Overall, the applications did well in the test, with an average of 74.1 out of 100 possible points.

Four supermarkets received very good ratings

The test winner was Rewe. The supermarket chain leads the field with 87.2 points (very good). The app received a rating of 90.4 points in the utility value category and impressed with a product scanner, among other things.

Kaufland is in second place with a very good 86.0 points. The app came in second in terms of user-friendliness and usability.

Third place goes to market leader Edeka with 82.9 points. The last supermarket that received a very good is Penny in 4th place (82.8). For this, the discounter’s app won in the user-friendliness category.

Two apps are only sufficient

Six markets with good ratings ranked 5th to 10th, including Lidl and Aldi. Only two brands fell: Netto (57.0) and Norma (53.8) received the grade sufficient.
