Supermassive Games (The Dark Pictures, The Quarry) acquired 100% by Nordisk Games

The acquisitions of independent studios are legion at the moment and rare are the teams to escape it. This is the case this week Supermassive Games (Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures, The Quarry), which has just been 100% acquired by a Nordic company. No, it’s not Swedish Embrace Group for once, but from Danish Nordisk Games.

This subsidiary of Nordisk Filmwhich itself is part of the media group Egmont, is not at its first attempt, because it has Avalanche Studios Group and Flashbulb Gamesa majority share of Star Stable Entertainment and Nitro Gamesand 40% of MercurySteam. It also held 30.7% of super massive since March 2021, but has therefore just bought the rest of the shares of the studio based in Guildford in the United Kingdom.

“It’s been just over a year since Nordisk Games made an initial investment in Supermassive Games and its vision for the future. During this time, we have found that we share many important values with Mikkel and his team, and we believe these values are equally important to our existing business partners whom we will continue to support. Having had such a positive experience over the past year, it wasn’t a difficult decision when Nordisk Games wanted to explore increasing their investment. We have an exciting and ambitious growth strategy for Supermassive Games and the acquisition by Nordisk Games only enhances that. I’m extremely excited about where the security afforded by this partnership and continued access to Nordisk Games’ expertise will take us next,” said Pete Samuels, CEO of Supermassive Games.

“In the year we’ve worked alongside Pete and Joe and the entire Supermassive team, we’ve come to understand the amount of talent, as well as the creative potential of the types of storytelling games they excel at,” said said Mikkel Weider, CEO of Nordisk Games. “By acquiring 100% of the studio, we will be able to increase our support for the team and, more importantly, continue the excellent working relationship we have with them. »

In short, this takeover should not change much for Pete Samuels, Joe Samuels and their now more than 300 employees. Supermassive Games should nevertheless have more funds and security than ever to pursue his projects, starting with The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Meavailable for pre-order from €39.99 before its release this fall.
