Claudia Schiffer (53) has been an integral part of the fashion and media industry since the 1990s. She was one of those beauties who coined the term supermodel back then. For “Vogue” magazine, the Rheinberg native is one of the pioneers to whom the March issue of the magazine is dedicated. Told in the cover interview the Londoner of choice for her career and family life.

From the supermodel era to the social media age

Claudia Schiffer also sees herself and her colleagues as pioneers: “We have the Supers [Supermodels, Red.] “Back then, we crossed a lot of boundaries, became well-known names in our own right and stood for self-made success,” she explains, adding: “That was new and opened doors for the following generation.”

But a lot has happened since then. Schiffer counts diversity as one of the biggest changes: “The industry has diversified,” she says, specifying the areas: “Age, sexuality, body type, skin color and so on. This is an incredibly positive change that represents a much broader and healthier spectrum of representation and education.” Today, models work “until their forties and well beyond,” says the 53-year-old. This creates “a much more rounded image of womanhood and a vision of beauty at every age,” says Schiffer.

As if to prove it, she is modeling again. She returned to the catwalk for the Italian luxury label Versace in September and presented parts of the spring 2024 collection. Her walk could also be seen on Instagram.

Speaking of which: Social media is another big topic that didn’t exist before: “What’s great today is that models can build multi-pronged careers because they have access to a huge global audience through social media. They have the power and control over their own images, their voices and their values.” She admires that.

Claudia Schiffer and Matthew Vaughn: “Normal childhood” for the young

Claudia Schiffer has been married to the British film producer and director Matthew Vaughn (52) since 2002. They have three children together – Caspar (born 2003), Clementine (born 2004) and Cosima (born 2010) – who they have kept out of the public eye: “Matthew and I consciously tried to give all three children a normal childhood “which means we’ve kept them completely out of the spotlight,” explains Schiffer. A normal childhood makes you “a more balanced and down-to-earth person,” she believes.

But the celebrity parents are slowly loosening the reins. “Now that they are older, it is of course up to them whether they want to follow in our footsteps or do something completely different,” says the still successful model.

Family cat in the spy thriller “Argylle”

Another family member is also currently in the public eye. Matthew Vaughn’s new film, “Argylle,” stars Chip, the family cat. Schiffer also poses with the gray animal in Prada on the cover of Vogue. Vaughn and Chip drove to the film set together every morning, Schiffer remembers the filming. The cat was then able to relax in Vaughn’s trailer.

“Since then the hangover has even his own Instagram accountand his memoirs were published in which he tells of his adventures with me in the fashion and film world, illustrated by Angelica Hicks,” said Schiffer. His fame is growing, “and it’s getting more and more… frustrating,” she adds with a laugh.

The March issue of Vogue Germany will be available in stores and online from February 24, 2024.
