Supplementary health insurance companies are considering significant increases in contributions for 2024

This is a now usual autumn episode between the State and complementary health insurance, but it promises to be particularly tense this year. While the Social Security financing bill was unveiled on September 27 and must be examined in the National Assembly by the end of October, alerts have already been rising for several weeks in the ranks of complementary health insurance.

With the same message: between soaring health spending and “burden transfers » of the State in their direction, the bill promises to be severe with increases in contributions in view “double digits”we hear from the ranks of the organizations, which are in the process of making their final decisions on the 2024 prices.

Is this a way to protect yourself from a future government measure? The Social Security budget does not contain, to date, any significant new measures towards complementary funds, but all players in the sector remember the “exceptional contribution” requested during the Covid years, or even the “solidarity contribution” appeared during examination in Parliament in 2022.

The complementary organizations are already putting forward the transfers of charges deemed “massive” that they will have to bear: their expenses will increase by 1.3 billion euros in 2024, according to the French Mutuality; between 1 billion and 1.5 billion euros according to Malakoff Humanis; of more than 1 billion euros, according to France Assureurs, the French Insurance Federation…
