The story would have something to inspire a thriller, yet for those close to the author Susan Meachen, it has everything of a very bad joke. It all starts in September 2020, whena young woman – supposedly the daughter of Susan Meachen – logs into her mother’s Facebook page profile to announce her death. As recounted by Samantha Cole, an author friend of Susan Meachen, a message was written explaining that Susan Meachen had committed suicide, in large part because of the harassment she had suffered from the literary community. She was part of a group of authors called “The Ward”. The message from the one who said she was his daughter stated that Susan Meachen’s family no longer wanted anything to do with the literary community, but that they would accept their help one last time to promote the latest book written by Susan Meachenhis daughter’s wedding present.
After this sad announcement, the entire literary community mourned Susan Meachen. Two years later, in early 2023, a message appeared on the Facebook group The Ward, message signed by… Susan Meachen. The latter wanted to return to the living, explaining: “I’ve debated how to do this a million times, and I’m still not sure if it’s the right thing to do or not. I imagine there will be tons of questions and many people will leave the group. But my family did what they thought was best for me, and I can’t blame them. I almost died of my own fault yet again, and they had to go through all that hell all over again. Coming back to this band doesn’t mean much, but I feel better and hope to be able to write again. Let the festivities begin”.
The “dead” was on TikTok
A message that clearly went wrong, even if Susan Meachen wanted justify the decision of her family and herself to make people believe in her suicide so as not to be harassed any longer. Because following the false death of the author, many relatives did not hesitate to make donations to her family to participate in the costs of the funeral … fictitious. Following this turnaround, Samantha Cole asked the question that everyone was asking on Messenger to her friend who she thought was dead: “What is happening ??”. To which Susan Meachen simply replied: “Nothing. I just want my life back. My family was in a bind and did what they thought was best for me.”. And in addition to having lied to her relatives and pretended to have committed suicide, Susan Meachen has, meanwhile, continued to live normally and posted videos of herself with filters on a TikTok account…
