The first durability tests of theApple Vision Pro fell, and they ultimately turned out to be more positive than one could have believed: obviously, do not reproduce this at home, it could cost you $3,500.

It’s now a tradition: each time a new tech product is launched, many influencers and journalists go to test it. On another note, others even try (and succeed) in breaking it to test its durability. Some have even made it their specialty, like YouTuber JerryRigEverything. Be careful, however: this formal breaking work is not only cathartic, it can also provide a lot of valuable information about the quality of a product, and its propensity to remain solid even in the face of more or less bizarre situations. In the case of a $3,500 headset like the Apple Vision Pro and potentially even more expensive repairs, you might as well know as quickly as possible whether it will be damaged at the slightest opportunity before embarking on a potential repair procedure. ‘purchase.

Extremely durable front glass

As his name suggests, the YouTuber AppleTrack specializes in various leaks, rumors and information about Apple products. While he has not yet been able to offer a test for the Cupertino company’s new virtual reality headset, his latest video focuses more on the durability of the device. Inside, he carries out various tests to see the potential damage received by the helmet if it were to fall higher and higher.

The YouTuber starts by hitting the wall with the headset (one of the most realistic scenarios for the average user) to test the resistance of the front glass. In this normal wear scenario, the front glass of the Vision Pro gets scratched, but without really serious damage. In reality, you’re potentially more likely to hurt your head than do any real damage to the device.

Then YouTuber Sam Khol finishes his tests by dropping his helmet higher and higher. Good news: the screen remains intact, up to a certain point. It ends up breaking after an eighth fall from a very high height. However, the main headset still works, the internal and external screens operate normally, even if the protective glass is broken.

Speakers located on the weaker side

If the protective glass of the Apple Vision Pro seems particularly solid in the face of potential damage from everyday wear and tear, we cannot however say the same about the device’s speakers, located on the sides. So while the camera, cover glass and lenses still work fine after a few drops, the right speaker stopped working quickly.

To be clear, the connection on the side of the strap probably broke internally, which actually meant that the audio module could then no longer receive any power, and therefore stopped emitting any noise. In other words, if you were to drop your Apple Vision Pro, the screen and the various sensors located in the headset should still continue to work, but the sound could become a real problem if the speakers were to suffer the same fate as the YouTuber.

Overall, the observation is rather positive: if the sound can be affected first in the event of an accident, the protective glass seems to do its job wonderfully, and to be particularly resistant to shocks.
