X.com changes gear on the question of moderation. The platform now wants to recruit staff to moderate content.

Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, which later became X, his objective has been to restore financial balance to the site, in particular by reducing the workforce. Thousands of people were fired last year, including a good number of moderators. Enough to leave more latitude to all the more or less well-intentioned minds on the platform.

But after numerous controversies, it seems that X changes its position somewhat, and decides to recruit moderators again.

A hundred new moderators

The year 2024 could well be full of surprises! The proof is the announcement by Reuters, the creation at the moment of a new team of moderators. This will include around a hundred people, and will be based in the company’s premises located in Austin (Texas).

The platform’s objective with these recruitments is to significantly increase its fight against the dissemination of pedophile content. Manager Joe Benarroch says he hopes to have a full team by the end of the year.

Social networks soon to be heard on the issue

The timing of this announcement, made last weekend, surely owes nothing to chance. Indeed, a hearing is scheduled for this Wednesday, January 31 in the United States Senate, which will examine the problem of online sexual exploitation of children.

The bosses of the major web platforms will be present for the occasion, namely Meta, Snap, TikTok, Discord, and of course X.com, a network which will be represented by Linda Yaccarino.

At the end of last week, the platform also communicated on its 2023 results in the fight against pedophile content. It was thus explained in the document that 12.4 million accounts had been suspended last year for having violated the rules in the field, a figure significantly increasing compared to that of 2022 (period during which 2.3 million accounts had been suspended for this reason).
