Surprise, Free also has a new Freebox Pop in the pipeline

Free reviewed its Freebox catalog this week with the launch of the Freebox Ultra and the arrival of a Freebox Revolution Light package. The Freebox Pop is also entitled to new features.

Clearly, Free is stocking up on new features regarding its Freebox offers. The operator launched its new, very high-end Freebox Ultra this week. Free has also revised its cheapest box, the Freebox Revolution, now offered at a fixed price of 29.99 euros per month without commitment. Between the two, the Freebox Pop remains in the catalog.

We now learn that she too would be entitled to something new in 2024.

Wi-Fi 7 and on/off button

Internet user Tiino-X83, specialist in Free news, was able to get his hands on the technical guides for the new Freebox range. They confirm the technical characteristics of the Freebox Ultra such as the integration of Wi-Fi 7, but it is especially on the side of the Freebox Pop that we discover a new hardware revision.

More precisely, it is the Freebox Pop Server box which has been reworked for 2024. According to this guide, it will now offer a wall mounting system, as well as an on/off button on the back. Finally, this new Freebox Pop upgrades to Wi-Fi 7. Be careful, however, the 6 GHz frequency band is not supported, as on the new Free repeater. In other words, the box is incapable of offering the full capabilities of new generation Wi-Fi.

Launch in 2024?

Free has not announced these changes for the Freebox Pop, but the publication of a technical guide for the device shows that the new version is in the pipeline.

It remains to be seen whether Free will simply start distributing this new version without ever making a public announcement, or whether the operator will create a new little moment of communication in the weeks to come.

For the moment, the official Freebox Pop website continues to promise Wi-Fi 6.
