surprise, here is a new series on this iconic character

The Game of Thrones universe has not said its last word, and we have just learned that a new series is in preparation. And we can say that she was long overdue.

Game of Thrones may have ended a few years ago, but that doesn’t mean it’s over. Its universe continues to exist through spin-offs. We inevitably think of House of the Dragon, whose approach to season 2 is making more than one drool. However, will this be the only prequel to GOT that will see the light of day? Of course not. We know of another one that is under construction, and today, we learned that there was a new one that was being set up.

A new spin-off for Game of Thrones

For the moment, we have nothing other than House of the Dragon to sink our teeth into. On the spin-off side, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will officially start filming this year. But that’s not all. A new spin-off series is in development. This time, it will focus on the conquest of Westeros by Aegon I Targaryen. A story that we have often heard about in Game of Thrones, but which has not yet been shown on screen. We were wondering if it wasn’t going to happen, and we now have confirmation.

The story should technically take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. As a reminder, our man is not only a conqueror. He was also the first to sit on the Iron Throne, after which he founded the Targaryen dynasty. So we’re not dealing with just anyone. In any case, this announcement has excited the community, who can’t wait to see Aegon I and his sisters/wives (that’s GOT) riding their dragons to burn everything that moves. More seriously, it promises a great plot, which is even described as being a “return to basics”.

For the moment, we don’t really know more about this Game of Thrones prequel. The project is at an early stage, but we still have important information to note. Mattson Tomlin will be in charge of the screenplay. A task that is far from easy, but his CV is rather reassuring. He notably participated in the script of The Batman, and he is co-writing (at the time of writing) the screenplay for the sequel. Tomlin also worked on the Terminator animated series for Netflix, for which he is showrunner. In short, nothing to worry about.

Another series should have seen the light of day

Besides, know that another Game of Thrones spin-off could have seen the light of day. That was years ago, and HBO had spent about $30 million to finance “Blood Moon.” Normally, the series would tell us the story of a marriage between a Stark and a Casterly. There was even Naomi Watts headlining, that’s no small thing! Unfortunately, the project was nipped in the bud, and we only have a few images from the set as souvenirs. According to Robert Greenblatt, former chairman of WarnerMedia, the problem wasn’t that it was “bad.” It just didn’t live up to HBO’s ambitions.
