Surprise price increase at Orange: pay attention to your bills

“I confirm that it is not possible to waive the price increase”, if you have an old offer, Orange will impose a price increase on you.

In the wake of SFR, Sosh and Bouygues Telecom, Orange is pinned. Customers rise on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and on the Orange support forum, they all received email notifications informing them of a price increase on their subscriptions.

A targeted increase on old offers

According to the information collected, the tariff adjustment would mainly concern offers now absent from the current catalog, such as Open offers which offered a combination of mobile and fixed services. This increase, amounting to 2 euros per month, is presented not as an option, but as an inevitable development of the current offer.

Orange justifies this increase by enriching the services offered, in particular by adding additional data to these packages, with the aim of “ give you a better experience “.

ARPU, the key indicator behind this method

This approach raises the question of ARPU, an acronym for “Average Revenue Per User” in French. This economic indicator is crucial for companies in the telecommunications sector, because it makes it possible to evaluate the income generated on average by each customer.

The increase in prices, by offering more data for a slightly higher price, aims to improve this indicator by encouraging customers to consume more, while increasing the operator’s revenue. Obviously, few customers consume their entire data envelope, so Orange is a winner.

What options?

Faced with this price change, Orange customers are faced with three choices: accept this increase by benefiting from additional services, change their offer within Orange itself, or turn to the competition.
