SVP delegates’ meeting – Chiesa pledges SVP to fight against climate protection law – News

  • SVP President Marco Chiesa has committed his party members to a tough vote against the climate protection law.
  • “Once again, everyone will be against the SVP,” the Ticino warned the delegates at their meeting in Meyrin GE.
  • The party meeting took place under strict police surveillance because left-wing extremist groups had called for a demonstration against the presence of SVP Switzerland in Geneva.

«The energy crisis is a reality, today and in the future. And what are the other parties doing? They make the situation even worse, »said the SVP President. He criticized the climate protection law, the title of which was already “the height of cheek”.

This law will lead to a de facto ban on heating oil, petrol, diesel and gas, Chiesa said. Driving and heating will only be possible with electricity, which will greatly increase demand. Therefore, the law should be called by its real name: “The law on wasting electricity”.

“Put an end to this madness”

The President of SVP Switzerland quoted a study by ETH Zurich, according to which the new law would lead to additional energy costs of more than 6,600 francs per person and year. He also spoke of investments in the order of at least 387 billion francs for new heating systems and house renovations.

“We have to put an end to this madness of the pink-green left and sink this mendacious and expensive law,” said Chiesa. The SVP held the referendum against the new climate protection law, which serves as an indirect counter-proposal to the glacier initiative. She brought together almost 104,000 signatures, more than twice as many as needed.

In addition to the central fight against the climate protection law, the delegates took the slogan for the implementation of the OECD minimum tax. Both templates will come to the federal referendum on June 18th.

The gathering opened with the traditional bell ringing and the national anthem. It took place under strict police surveillance because left-wing extremist groups had called for a demonstration against the presence of SVP Switzerland in Geneva.
