Sweden-The social democrats given victory in the legislative elections

(Updated with details of surveys)

STOCKHOLM, Sept 11 (Reuters) – Centre-left parties are on course for a narrow victory in Sunday’s general elections in Sweden, according to several exit polls broadcast by television channels, which would assure the incumbent Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson a new mandate.

The center-left bloc led by the social democrats would win 50.6% of the vote against 48.0% for the alliance of right-wing parties, according to the private channel TV4, 49.8% of the vote against 49.2 % according to the public channel SVT.

These projections should be handled with caution because it is not uncommon in Sweden for the final election result to be quite far from the exit polls.

According to SVT, the centre-left bloc would win a majority of 176 seats in Parliament (out of 349).

In detail, the Social Democrats in power are due to win 29.3% (SVT) 29.7% (TV4) of the vote, better than four years ago (28.3%).

The Democrats of Sweden party, nationalist and anti-immigration, would collect 20.5% (SVT) 21.3% (TV4) of the vote, against 17.5% in 2018. (Report Anna Ringstrom, French version Jean- Stephane Brush)
