Jack Antonoff defends Taylor Swift’s talent. He stands up to critics who question his good friend’s abilities.

He is firmly behind Taylor Swift (34): Music producer Jack Antonoff (39), with whom the singer has been working very successfully since 2012, has spoken out in a new interview about how he thinks about criticism of his good friend’s songwriting talent. “I’m a bit of a bitch sometimes,” Antonoff said in an interview with the “LA Times”. “But if someone goes after my girlfriend Taylor, they’re done for me.”

For him, questioning Swift’s songwriting was “like questioning someone’s belief in God.” Antonoff further adds: “You just don’t do that.”

The background to Jack Antonoff’s statements

The background to the current statement is an interview with the “LA Times” from January 2022. Gorillaz founder Damon Albarn (55) claimed at the time that Swift would not write her hits herself. Swift’s producer and songwriting partner then referred to his fellow musician back then on Twitter as “Kraut”.

Taylor Swift also reacted angrily to Albarn’s assumption two years ago. She posted a tweetin which she let Albarn know: “I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write all my songs myself. Your assumption is completely wrong and so harmful. You don’t have to like my songs, but it is really wrong to try to discredit my songwriting. Wow. PS: I wrote that tweet all by myself in case you were wondering.”

The Gorillaz and Blur founder apologized profusely at the time, saying his comments had been “reduced to clickbait.” “I apologize unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I wanted to do was discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand that,” wrote Albarn on Twitter (today X).
