The French swimming championships started on Sunday in Rennes, and they will last all week. The spectators only have eyes for the nugget from Toulouse, Léon Marchand, who is aiming for six gold medals in as many races. The young 21-year-old swimmer splashes the discipline with his talent.
The attraction of the French swimming championships is called Léon Marchand. The double world champion crushes the national competition and should be one of the heroes of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This swimmer is truly a nugget and he is programmed to splash the Games with his talent, say those who follow the career birth of Léon Marchand.
Sure of his potential, the young man from Toulouse, who has just turned 21, has gone into exile in the United States, where he is trained by Bob Bowman, the man who shaped American legend Michael Phelps and his 28 Olympic medals, including 23 in gold.
A Léon Marchand “much better than before”
Returning to France to compete in the national championships, Léon Marchand has grown physically. “Yes, I gained a little weight”, agrees the young man with Europe 1. “The United States is a food that is also different. You had to be careful, I still did DNA analyzes to be able to find out more about my nutrition, etc. There are a lot of things that I have a little balanced”, explains Léon Marchand, even saying of him that he is now “much better than before”.
If Léon Marchand is involved in six races and is aiming for as many gold medals during the French championships – on Monday, he has already won his first two races – the big objective of his season will be at the end of July, with the Worlds in Japan. The Toulousain hopes for new titles there, after those of the 200 m and the 400 m medley acquired last year.
