Tournament number 3 Taylor Fritz is in the round of 16 at the Swiss Indoors after a show of strength.

  • 1st round: Taylor Fritz (ATP 9) s. Max Purcell (ATP 41) 7:6 (9:7), 7:6 (7:4)
  • 1st round: Ugo Humbert (ATP 28) s. Marcos Giron (ATP 57) 6:3, 4:6, 7:6 (7:3)
  • 1st round: Casper Ruud (ATP 8) s. Alexander Bublik (ATP 30) 7:6 (7:5), 6:2
  • Round of 16: Hubert Hurkacz (ATP 11) vs. Jan-Lennard Struff (ATP 27) 6:1, 6:4

It was a hard piece of work, that Taylor Fritz had to do in the starting round at the Swiss Indoors. The American had to go into a tiebreak twice against Australian Max Purcell before victory was certain. The tournament number 3 could have had it much easier. Twice Fritz took the lead with a break in the second round, but Purcell was able to counter twice, the second time at 5:5 the point was particularly worth seeing. In the tiebreak, Fritz quickly moved ahead to 6:2 and didn’t allow himself to be duped again. Wawrinka’s conqueror Alexander Shevchenko is waiting for Fritz in the round of 16.

Also Ugo Humbert lived up to his role as favorite, even if he had to fight more than he would have liked. The Frenchman even had to take a detour via the 3rd set against Marcos Giron (USA) and was only able to prevail in the short decision. In the round of 16, Humbert will face tournament number 7 Nicolas Jarry (CHI).

In two sentences sat down Casper Ruud in his first round game. Against Alexander Bublik, the Norwegian had to make up for a break deficit in both rounds, but remained confident overall. He secured the first break in the tiebreak, the second after three breaks in a row with 6:2. In the next round there will be a duel with Dominic Stricker.

The Pole is already in the quarterfinals Hubert Hurkacz. The world number 11 gave the German Jan-Lennard Struff no chance in his 6:1, 6:4 victory in just over an hour. In the first set, Struff didn’t get through any of his three service games, and he was also broken straight away in the second round. In the round of the last eight, Hurkacz will face Alex de Minaur or Tallon Grieekspoor.
