The Kriechmayr case causes irritation. The later winner was at the start of the downhill, although he had missed the training sessions because he was still in isolation. Even after a discussion with the World Ski Federation FIS, Swiss Alpine Ski Director Walter Reusser says: “If the jury decides on such a special solution, they must be sure that the facts are correct.”
The world champion Vincent Kriechmayr won the Lauberhorn downhill in Wengen on Saturday, the Swiss Beat Feuz, Marco Odermatt and Stefan Rogentin finished 2nd, 4th and 8th. So far, so fast, so good. Above all, Kriechmayr is a controversial Lauberhorn winner. The Austrian was allowed to take part in the Friday and Saturday downhills despite missing the regular practice sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday; Kriechmayr was still in isolation until Wednesday after a positive corona test. In order for him to be eligible to start in the downhills, the race jury gave him a few seconds of alibi training on Friday, during which he only drove out of the starting gate.
