Swiss tradition on the Schynige Platte

This is a paid contribution, presented by Jungfrau Railways

The drive to Schynige Platte alone is an experience. The nostalgic rack railway was built in 1893. Wooden benches in the train carriages, rolling stock from the 19th century and the historical uniforms of the train attendants are reminiscent of the “Belle Epoque”. In just under an hour, the locomotives, some of which are over 100 years old, take you from Wilderswil up to 1967 meters above sea level. On the way, guests can see enough of the wonderful views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau as well as Lake Thun and Lake Brienz.

Swiss tradition is very important on the Schynige Platte. Alphorn players play every day and visitors can then pose with the instrument in front of the mountain backdrop, as if they were the professionals themselves. Speaking of posing: the nature cinema is open to guests from June to October, a circular route at over 2000 meters above sea level above the Schynige Platte railway station. On the way, wooden steles with peepholes frame the view in different ways. A perfect subject for the photo album.

Family fun with the cow Lily treasure hunt

A visit to the Schynige Platte is a special experience, especially for families with children. The carved cow Lily and her friends invite the little ones to linger on the new alpine playground. Adventurous children can solve a total of nine puzzles in the treasure hunt on the Lily Trail. With the correct answer, children can choose a treasure from the treasure chest in the Schynige Platte restaurant and win great prizes.

Lily, cats, chickens and other companions are not just anyone: They are the well-known originals from the children’s dream factory of Trauffer wooden toys. And none other than the dialect singer and Alpentainer Marc Trauffer takes over the patronage of the playground.

If you want to meet the cow Lily in person, you have to go to Lily Family Day on August 28, 2021 in red in the agenda. On the day, Francine Jordi and Marc Trauffer, together with the cow Lily, welcome young and old to the Schyinge Platte.

Hikes for young and old

The Schynige Platte is also the starting point for beautiful circular hikes from easy to difficult. All of them offer a breathtaking panorama with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau vis-à-vis. The best view is from the panorama path. After starting at the mountain hotel and restaurant Schynige Platte, the route passes the Tuba viewpoint towards the Loucherhorn. The Bernese Alps with their triumvirate are always in view, not to mention the summer mountain flora and Lake Brienz – a lot of Switzerland in a short time.

Those who like it a little more demanding can go on the fantastic day tour – the ridge hike via Faulhorn to First. It offers a grandiose panoramic view as well as a breathtaking view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau as well as Lake Thun and Lake Brienz.
