The booster vaccination for Switzerland seems to be within reach. After long discussions and calls from politicians, the third vaccination could come at the end of this month. That said Swissmedic head of approval Claus Bolte on the television program “10 vor 10”
According to this, the booster vaccination is still possible in October – “if the relevant companies play along,” said Bolte. “I’m talking about a few, maybe two or three weeks,” he said when asked when the third vaccination should be allowed.
Evidence not yet clearly provided
The approval is now dependent on the manufacturer. They would have to answer Swissmedic’s questions. “If the manufacturers play along, approval is still possible until the end of October,” said Bolte.
The proof of the need for a third or so-called booster vaccination has not yet been clearly provided. The Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products, Swissmedic, once again questioned the differentiation of who or which age group needs such a vaccination and also has the necessity.
Doctors could vaccinate without approval
Politicians recently demanded that Swissmedic finally move forward with the approval of the booster vaccination. Recently, vaccination breakthroughs increased sharply in the elderly. The case of Alice Schmidli-Amrein made the headlines in particular. At the very beginning of the campaign, she was vaccinated against Corona in a nursing home in Kriens LU. Now she is dead. Her son is convinced that a booster vaccination could have saved her.
Doctors don’t have to wait that long. The chief canton doctor Rudolf Hauri says in an interview with the “Tages-Anzeiger” from Tuesday, doctors could use vaccinations even without approval. That is why the booster vaccinations are already possible – but only in individual cases. If doctors use a vaccination without approval, they also assume liability for any complications. (zis / SDA)
