Switch: an update on console sales and the top 10 Nintendo games as of December 31, 2023

We are currently in the period where video game companies carry out and share their financial statements and Nintendo therefore comes from communicate on this subject. In order not to change, we will therefore take stock, starting with the sales of the Switch as of December 31, 2023. This hardware, which is already no longer very young since it will celebrate its 7th anniversary in March, has therefore passed has 139.36 million units worldwide. Over the last quarter (beginning of October to the end of December), no less than 6.9 million consoles were sold. The pace has therefore slowed further compared to the same period last year, which is not very surprising. Regardless, the record held by the DS still stands (154.02 million). The share of sales of the OLED model is greater than ever for the entire fiscal year, which is not yet over, while the Lite still remains at approximately the same level.

On the software side, a new milestone has been reached with 1.20010 billion games sold in total (1,200.10 million if you prefer). Over the last quarter, there were 66.87 million copies who found a buyer. Same observation, sales are eroding from year to year, despite the big releases which have taken place.

The top 10 first-party games have not changeddespite updating the data. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom did not experience any surge with the end-of-year holidays, since “only” 780,000 copies were sold, less than in the previous quarter.

Apart from this top, we are also entitled to some data from other games, including Super Mario Bros. Wonder who confirmed his excellent starta record for a 2D episode, remains to be seen whether it will succeed in dethroning the port of its predecessor from the Wii U in the future.

Finally, regarding Nintendo generally speaking, forecasts for the end of its fiscal year have been revised upwards, notably thanks to a favorable exchange rate and good sales.
