A man discovered at the age of 73 that he had been switched at birth and he sought with his daughter to find her biological family.
Between brothers and sisters there is a lot of bickering, and we hear remarks like “you were adopted anyway” or “you were switched at birth”… If most of the time these remarks are unfounded, in some cases it may be true! Babies exchanged at birth are not that numerous but when it happens it is a huge upheaval in the lives of the people concerned. A very sad outcome that affects another person: Andrew Perkins, 73, found out he was switched at birth but he was unable to meet his biological parents after finding them. The man always felt deep down that he was different from his brothers and sisters but he would never have imagined this. It was his daughter who helped him find out where he really came from…

Andrew Perkins told his story to the New York Post, he explains why he always felt different in his own family: “I always looked different from the rest of the family. Everyone was dark-skinned while I had blue eyes and fair hair. My siblings were also much taller than me. But most people have this feeling during their teenage yearsas if they did not belong to their own family.”
60 years later, Andrew realized that it wasn’t just a teenage crisis. His daughter, Candi Perkins, looked into the family history, she compared the DNAs and she realized that her father had nothing in common with her parents and siblings. So she looked for where her father could come from and she found the answer in the press. She found her birth certificate and next there was another baby born in the same hospital in Warsaw, the Robinson couple’s child. After finding the family contact, Andrew waited two weeks to contact them.
Unfortunately he was only able to meet his biological brothers and sisters, his parents died in 2015 and 2016. He says: “I went to the cemeteries of my biological mother and father. I started a grieving process – not only grieving that I never met them, but also grieving that they died.” He still remained in contact with his 4 brothers and sisters, they have called each other every day since they met.
