How the pricing table works
Tamron is no longer really at its first attempt on its range of lenses for Sony mirrorless cameras. Moreover, the optician has even started to renew its range – brilliantly – using the new Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2. For now, Tamron is quietly continuing its journey by diversifying its product line with the 20-40mm F/2.8 Di III VXD zoom.
An ultra wide angle
With a focal range of 20 to 40 mm, Tamron is rather original, especially with a bright and constant aperture at f/2.8. If a 20-40 mm zoom is not completely new, it was generally found associated with a more or less generous sliding aperture.
In addition to its weight of 365 g and its length of 86.5 mm, Tamron positions the 20-40mm F/2.8 Di III VXD more for videographers, thanks to its ultra wide-angle and the opening which should make it possible to isolate the subject of the background without too much difficulty. The 40 mm focal length allows less typical shots while the minimum focusing distance of 17 cm – at 20 mm – allows a magnification ratio of 0.26x. A relatively generous value.
No optical stabilization
Obviously, Tamron does not forget to specify that the image quality will be very good with a responsive autofocus thanks to the VXD linear motor. The new refreshed design that the optician uses on its new lenses is carried over, as is the 67 mm filter screw thread, available on many references in the range. In addition, the construction is designed to resist humidity and dust while the front lens has a fluorine treatment.
Small additional precision, the 20-40mm F/2.8 Di III VXD is compatible with the Tamron Lens Utility software in order to update the firmware of the lens or to customize the compatible commands.
Price and availability
The announcement of the 20-40mm F/2.8 Di III VXD concerns its development and not the arrival of the product in stores. Features may change while we don’t have the latest definitive information yet.
Similarly, the precise marketing date and price are currently unknown. Tamron still expects the 20-40mm F/2.8 Di III VXD to arrive on the market in the fall of 2022.
