Tanja Szewczenko almost managed to get through the first few weeks in Dubai without an accident. But then only almost: on the way to the driver’s license office, where husband Norman wanted to pick up his document, there was a crash.

That’s hair-raising! In the first four weeks since she moved to Dubai Tanja Szewczenko, 46, the only adult in her family of five who was already allowed to drive a car in her new adopted home. Husband Norman Jeschke, 44, had to wait even longer for his Emirates ID and therefore his driving license. A challenge that the mother of three has mastered skillfully – at least so far.

Tanja Szewczenko: First car accident in almost 20 years

“[Ich] I was so proud of myself for getting along so well here in Dubai. 6-8 lanes on the highway. Thousands of cars. The right is being overtaken. Numerous forks, traffic jams, new strange routes and so on [sic]”, wrote the former figure skater in her Instagram story on October 17th. She actually always drove responsibly and carefully – despite being tired and distracted by her kids or her loved one. When the family of five was on the way to Norman’s Picking up Emirates ID was a hassle.

“My last drive before Norman can finally take the wheel. I drove out of the underground car park and at the first traffic light I rear-ended someone… [sic]”, writes Tanja regretfully. She puts numerous crying emojis behind it. A moment of inattention caused the first car accident in years, dents in two cars and a crumpled expression on the influencer’s face.

The good news: (almost) nothing happened

For Szewczenko, the rear-end collision “happened out of nowhere” and she condemns it as “so unnecessary.” “I was so scared and angry with myself,” says Tanja. The initial feeling of pride that she would be able to handle the car so well in Dubai has now turned into great disappointment. But the good news is: “The most important thing, of course, is that nothing happened to anyone. I was barely driving at any speed. [sic]” Blessing in disguise!
